How is a Life Care Plan Formulated?

The Life Care Planner initially reviews all available medical records of the client taking into account that pre-existing issues are of equal importance to the current issues. The Life Care Planner will conduct a thorough interview and assessment of the injured person at their place of residence. Assessment may include inspection of vehicles and interviews with caregivers and family members as needed. School or employment areas may also require assessment.

After review of the records, interview and assessment of the client the Life Care Planner will formulate a plan with careful collaboration of the medical providers and care givers involved. The costs involved in the Plan are based on current dollars and are obtained through interviews with suppliers, facilities, pharmacies, and other health care providers. The costs do not reflect inflationary costs or trends of the health care industry. Allowances for inflation and medical care trends should be determined by an economist. Once the Plan is completed it will be forwarded to the client’s attorney.

Once it is completed and the funds are made available, the Life Care Plan is instrumental in caring for the injured individual assuring that the money will last for the client’s life expectancy. Therefore many times a Case Manager is hired to assist for the purpose of keeping the plan in place and determining when new needs arise. (This is usually included in the Life Care Plan therefore the expense of this is accounted for).
